You wear the small amplifier under the overalls along with a simple cell phone, when the phone is connected to the amplifier it responds automatically so you don't have to press any buttons. Once the communication is running, you hear everything the driver says in the headset in the pit and when you want to talk to the driver from the pit, you use the PTT (Push To Talk) button that is on the headset. The driver should not be disturbed unnecessarily, so the driver only hears in the headset when the technician chooses to talk.
