Description

Blackline Helical LSD differential – Golf Mk3/Mk4, Corrado, Jetta and Vento

Suitable for

  • Volkswagen Golf Mk3 and Mk4
  • Volkswagen Corrado
  • Volkswagen Jetta
  • Volkswagen Vento

Please note: the exact compatibility depends on the type of transmission. Before purchasing, check whether this differential is suitable for your car.

Advantages

  • Improves traction by directing more drive torque to the wheel with the highest grip.
  • Provides better acceleration and more control when exiting corners.
  • Reacts quickly to changes in grip.
  • Operates smoothly and quietly, without the use of wear-sensitive coupling elements.
  • Requires little maintenance.
  • Suitable for both everyday street use and sporty driving and drifting.
  • Made from strong 8620 alloy steel for high durability.
  • Designed as a direct replacement for the original differential, provided the transmission is compatible.

How does the Blackline Helical LSD work?

The Blackline Helical LSD (Limited Slip Differential) is a mechanical differential that regulates the distribution of drive torque between the two driven wheels.

With a standard open differential, a wheel that loses grip can cause the transmission power to be limited. The Helical LSD reduces this problem by directing more torque to the wheel with the most grip. This improves traction, acceleration, and stability, especially when accelerating out of corners and on surfaces with low grip.

5:1 gear ratio

The Blackline Helical LSD has a torque bias ratio of 5:1. This means that, depending on the available grip, the differential can transmit up to five times as much torque to the wheel with the most grip as it can to the wheel with the least grip.

There is an important prerequisite here: the wheel with the least grip still has to experience some resistance. If one wheel is completely free of grip, for example when it hangs freely in the air, a helical differential may have difficulty transferring sufficient driving torque.

Smooth and immediately working

The differential uses helical gears that generate axial forces under load. This causes friction within the differential, which transfers the driving torque to the wheel with the most grip.

The higher the applied driving torque, the greater these forces and the stronger the braking effect. At low loads, the differential remains smooth, ensuring driving comfort during normal road use.

Unlike a friction clutch, this system does not use friction plates or clutch packs. This results in fewer wear-sensitive parts and reduced maintenance requirements.

Ideal for street use and sporty driving

The Blackline Helical LSD is suitable for drivers who want to improve the traction and driving behavior of their car. The differential provides progressive operation and can help transfer power more effectively to the road surface.

The system can also offer benefits when driving and drifting. Please note that its performance during drifting depends on the available grip, the vehicle setup, and the driving conditions.

Attention: A Helical LSD works well in combination with modern ABS systems. In situations where one wheel has virtually no grip, controlled braking of that wheel can sometimes help support the braking effect. This requires the correct technique and is not intended as a replacement for proper vehicle setup.
